Description:  This course is designed as an introduction to resistive exercise through the use of weight machines and free weights, with emphasis on total fitness through circuit training. Each student will identify personal needs and pursue a program appropriate to those needs. Must be taken Pass/Fail.

Relaxation Techniques (PHED 1132)

Description:  This course is designed for the student interested in developing body awareness and relaxation techniques. It includes learning techniques to reduce distress and quiet the body, stretches for relaxing, diaphragmatic breathing, progressive relaxation, massage, and various other techniques. It also emphasizes decisions and choices that need to be made for acquiring good body awareness, all done within a psychophysical education approach. Must be taken Pass/Fail.

Description:  This course introduces you to a variety of folk dances. Instruction will focus on many different cultures and the importance of dance as it reflects diverse heritages. Active participation is required. Must be taken A-F.

Fitness Intensity Training (PHED 1180)

Description:  This advanced course is designed for the moderately to vigorously physically active student. You will participate in strength training, flexibility, endurance, and intense interval activities, as well as assess your level of physical fitness. Must be taken A-F.

Wellness Leadership (PHED 2210)

Description:  This is a required course for students pursuing the Personal Trainer and/or Group Exercise certification. You will learn behavior modification techniques and strategies for instructing participants in various areas of wellness as well as promoting wellness, as a leader in your community. You will apply these principles to teach fitness classes, work with individuals one on one, or organize a community wellness project.
Prerequisites:  PHED 1123 or PHED 1180 or Instructor Approval

Personal and Group Exercise Training (PHED 2211)

Description:  This course prepares students for the National Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Certifications. You will gain knowledge and skills in exercise science, nutrition and assessment for physical activity, as well as exercise program design. You must also take PHED 2210 to complete the certification. Must be taken A-F.
Prerequisites:  PHED 1123 or PHED 1180 and PHED 1100; or Instructor Approval
