Fitness Walking (PHED 1134)

Description: In this course, you will be introduced to the benefits of walking, learn good walking techniques, set fitness goals and document your activities. Must be taken Pass/Fail.

Topical Outline:
1. Wellness concept and the dimensions of wellness and how they contribute to over all well-being
2. Physical fitness and the proper methods to achieve increased fitness results
3. Walking mechanics and equipment
4. SMART Goals
5. Routes, resources and training programs

Learning Outcomes:
1. Examine the Wellness concept and be able to state how walking contributes to overall fitness and well-being
2. Demonstrate proper walking techniques and equipment use
3. Develop an increased level of fitness during participation in the course
4. Develop SMART Goals that relate to current and future participation in walking as a lifetime pursuit
