Internship 3 Seminar (PSOM 2260)

Description: This seminar meets concurrently with Internship 3. Its purpose is to extend and validate the learning you gain at a partnering accredited sleep laboratory. You will discuss and reflect on your internship experiences, report case studies, assess your progress, and participate in group discussions. Must be taken Pass/Fail.

Learning Outcomes:
1. 1. Discuss selecting amplifier settings and troubleshooting in response to conditions, protocols and artifacts
2. 2. Reflect of the initiation and titration of PAP, NPPV and oxygen therapies for sleep-related breathing disorders in response to polysomnograpic findings and physician orders
3. 3. Describe examples of clinical sleep studies, including split-night studies, MSLT and MWT
4. 4. Discuss challenges in identifying and reporting sleep stages, arousals, respiratory events, ECG events, movement events, EEG events, therapeutic interventions, and other clinically significant information
5. 5. Reflect on infection control and safety techniques as well as appropriate responses to potential emergency situations

Prerequisites: 

PSOM 1650, PSOM 1660.

PSOM 2000, PSOM 2150, PSOM 2160 and PSOM 2250.
