Internship 3 (PSOM 2250)

Internship/Practicum Credits: 4.00

Description: This internship develops skills such as problem solving and critical thinking in the sleep laboratory. The emphasis is on production of high-quality records, titration of PAP and oxygen therapy, and the accurate and timely scoring and reporting of polysomnographic data. You will also measure daytime sleepiness and cover other daytime skills. Must be taken Pass/Fail.

Learning Outcomes:
1. 1. Select amplifier settings and troubleshoot as needed in response to conditions, protocols and artifacts
2. 2. Initiate and titrate PAP, NPPV and oxygen therapies for sleep-related breathing disorders in response to polysomnograpic findings and physician orders
3. 3. Conduct clinical sleep studies, including split-night studies, MSLT and MWT
4. 4. Identify and report sleep stages, arousals, respiratory events, ECG events, movement events, EEG events, therapeutic interventions, and other clinically significant information
5. 5. Demonstrate infection control and safety techniques as well as appropriate responses to potential emergency situations

PSOM 1650, PSOM 1660.

PSOM 2000, PSOM 2150, PSOM 2160 and PSOM 2260.
