Internship 1 Seminar (PSOM 1660)

Description: This seminar meets concurrently with Internship 1. Its purpose is to extend and validate the learning you gain at a partnering accredited sleep laboratory. You will discuss and reflect on internship experiences, report case studies, assess your progress, and participate in group discussions. Must be taken Pass/Fail.

Topical Outline:

Learning Outcomes:
1. 1. Discuss the components of the medical record necessary to perform a sleep study, including physician orders, patient history and medications
2. 2. Reflect on the selection and calibration of appropriate equipment and montages for a sleep study
3. 3. Describe your experiences explaining and documenting procedures and patient assessments, taking into account special precautions as well as physical, cognitive and emotional needs
4. 4. Reflect on applying electrodes and attaching ancillary recording equipment on patients of all ages using effective infection control and safety precautions
5. 5. Discuss performing physiological calibrations and lights out procedures

Prerequisites: 

PSOM 1100, PSOM 1200 and PSOM 1300.
