Web Layout and Design (WEBI 1416)

Description:  You will apply design principles and layout fundamentals to communicate solutions to various demographics. You will design with concern for Web dynamics such as format, browser, font and platform issues, as well as consider user-end monitor size and page control while adapting navigational strategies for optimal user engagement.
Prerequisites: 

Placement score into READ 0200 or ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042 with faculty recommendation into ESOL 0052.


Co-requisites: 

GRPH 1130 or PHDI 1020. PHDI majors can substitute PHDI 1020 in place of GRPH 1130.

HTML/CSS Authoring 1 (WEBI 1611)

Description:  You will develop a basic understanding of HTML, Cascading Style Sheets, and JavaScript by authoring webpages and completing a website. Current Web tools and design issues will be surveyed. Objective will be to produce clean and fast HTML pages built and verified to World Wide Web Consortium standards. Instruction will include online readings and tutorials.

HTML/CSS Authoring 2 (WEBI 1622)

Description:  A follow-up to Authoring 1, this course will introduce you to cutting-edge issues concerning HTML and related technologies. XML, XHTML, site accessibility, and CSS2 will be covered. JavaScript is revisited. Web design for alternative devices (wireless, WebTV, aural browsers) will be discussed. You will author and troubleshoot webpages and complete at least one website.

WEBI 1416, WEBI 1611, WEBI 1911.

Description:  This course uses industry standard code editing software, graphic applications and CSS frameworks that are associated with creating and managing professional web sites. You will design quality web sites while adhering to web standards.
Prerequisites: 

GRPH 1130, WEBI 1416; or for PHDI majors only: PHDI 1020 instead of GRPH 1130; or instructor approval.

Description:  This course is an introduction to client-side solution technologies for enhancing the user experience on the Worldwide Web. JavaScript, jQuery and other JavaScript Libraries will be covered along with current industry trends and web standards. You will be introduced to basic programming concepts and write scripts using the JavaScript language.

Description:  This course is an overview of server-side solution technologies for enhancing the user experience on the WorldWide Web. Description:  This course will explore design concepts associated with the areas of aesthetics, branding, and user experience (UX). You will apply these skills to individual and team projects throughout the semester. Description:  This advanced course examines the theory and application of Type in Motion, using lecture, demonstration, and collaborative studio work. You will focus on the application of type for the Web, Cinema, Interactive Media, and other evolving presentation formats, in which type is integrated with other motion visuals. You will develop the ability to use and experiment with the design and the application of type in order to create an effective emotional impact through interaction, texture, color and storytelling.

Description:  This course is a continuation of Web Problems 1. You will be engaged in advanced web design using current industry criterion for designing and developing content and interactive web projects. In addition, you will strengthen your design and marketing skills. You will develop individual and group projects with a focus on career goals and industry needs with an emphasis on portfolio quality design projects.

Internship (WEBI 2644)

Total Credits:  3   Internship/Practicum Credits:  3.00
Description:  The web design/animation/interactive media internship is an opportunity for supervised work experience that provides an important practical knowledge as well as a useful link to the job market. You will obtain an internship site that supports your special areas of interest and provides opportunities to interact with professional in their working environment. The internship requires 120 hours of residency in a web or an interactive media department, or organization producing web sites or interactive media for the web, smart phones or other web devices. Other industry related companies may qualify pending approval by the internship coordinator.
