Description: This course will prepare you for college-level writing. You will write several essays and a reflective letter. Your essays will include your perspective on an issue and your analysis of other writers’ ideas. You will focus on learning the writing process so that you can generate ideas and organize them into essays; you will also review grammar and mechanics. A committee will evaluate two of your essays and your letter to decide whether you pass the class. Must be taken P/NC

1. 1. Work with others (instructor, class colleagues, tutors) to develop the student’s own writing process and to provide constructive feedback
2. 2. Explore, develop, and reflect on ideas through reading and writing, recognizing the connections between audience, purpose, and content
3. 3. Produce effective essays by developing paragraphs and employing conventions of standard written English
4. 4. Demonstrate an emerging facility with using direct quotes and examples in order to express different views on an issue or problem
5. 5. Reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of the student’s own writing process, employing strengths effectively and working on weaknesses

Prerequisites: 

Placement score into ENGL 0900 or completion of ESOL 0041.
