Reciprocating Engines (ACMT 1225)

Description: This course covers reciprocating engines, construction, nomenclature, operating principles, component inspections, and manufacturers' overhaul procedures and requirements. You will also learn the principles of reciprocating engine induction and cooling systems. This course must be taken A-F.

Topical Outline:
1. Identification of different parts of a reciprocating engine
2. Principle of operation of reciprocating engines
3. Locate Aircraft Engine Overhaul procedures per manufacturer's specification
4. Logbook Entry of inspections and maintenance performed

Learning Outcomes:
1. Use appropriate manuals to assemble and disassemble a reciprocating engine.
2. Identify and inspect different parts of a cylinder.
3. Measure clearances and determine out of round regarding different parts of a reciprocating engine.
4. Inspect air scoops and air filters on a reciprocating engine.
5. Inspect flexible seals under the cowling, and cooling baffles around cylinders.

Prerequisites:  ACMT 1000, ACMT 1005, ACMT 1010, ACMT 1015, and ACMT 1020 or Instructor Approval
