You will continue to practice patient care and safety and educate patients. Emphasis in this course will be on accurate and timely scoring and reporting of PSG data, titrating PAP and oxygen therapy, and the development of problem solving and critical thinking skills in the sleep laboratory. You will also spend time measuring daytime sleepiness and performing other daytime skills. Must be taken Pass/Fail.

Topical Outline:
1. Proper equipment selection and application of electrodes/equipment on patients of all ages using effective infection control and safety precautions.
2. Proper initiation of sleep studies, documentation of sleep study events, scoring of sleep study data, and determination of the need for therapeutic interventions.
3. Troubleshooting and artifact correcting techniques, and proper amplifier setting selections, in order to ensure the integrity and quality of the sleep recording.
4. Initiation and titration of PAP, NIV, and oxygen therapy for sleep-related breathing disorders in response to polysomnographic findings and physician orders.
5. EKG interpretation and appropriate responses to potential emergency situations.
6. MSLTs, MWTs and other daytime skills.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Demonstrate timely and proper equipment selection and application of electrodes/equipment on patients using effective infection control and safety precautions.
2. Perform proper initiation of sleep studies, documentation of sleep study events, scoring of sleep study data, and determination of the need for therapeutic interventions in a timely manner.
3. Identify appropriate troubleshooting and artifact correcting techniques and proper amplifier setting selections in order to ensure the integrity and quality of the sleep recording.
4. Initiate and effectively titrate PAP, NIV, and oxygen therapy for sleep-related breathing disorders in response to polysomnographic findings and physician orders.
5. Properly interpret EKGs and identify appropriate responses to potential emergency situations.
6. Observe daytime responsibilities and skills including common measures of daytime sleepiness (MSLTs, MWTs) and sleep therapy management.
