Internship 1 Seminar (PSOM 2015)

Description:
This seminar meets concurrently with Internship 1 and extends and validates the learning you gain at an accredited sleep laboratory. You will discuss and reflect on internship experiences, report case studies, and assess your progress by participating in group discussions. Must be taken Pass/Fail.
Topical Outline:
1. Choosing equipment, supplies, and amplifier parameters with attention to the referring diagnoses, patient history/characteristics, PSG protocols and physician orders.
2. Application of electrodes and ancillary recording equipment on patients of all ages using effective infection control and safety precautions.
3. Initiation of sleep studies, including equipment and physiologic calibrations and other Lights Out procedures.
4. Identification and correction of artifacts throughout the study in order to ensure the integrity and quality of the sleep recording.
5. Documentation of sleep study events and other relevant information within the sleep recording.
6. Sleep study scoring and determining the need for therapeutic interventions.
Learning Outcomes:

4. Relate proper artifact correction techniques for ensuring the integrity and quality of sleep recordings.
5. Summarize proper documentation of sleep study events and other relevant information within the sleep recording.
6. Discuss sleep study scoring and determining the need for therapeutic interventions.
