Practicum Assessment and Preparation (COUN 2650)

Description: In this course, faculty will evaluate your readiness for a practicum and guide you in selecting practicum sites for the next semester. You will examine your strengths and areas for improvement as a potential alcohol and drug-abuse counselor, develop goals and criteria for practicum site selection, and interview at a variety of possible treatment and program sites. At the end of this course you must choose and be accepted by an appropriate practicum site approved by program faculty. You must earn at least a "C" (2.0) grade in this course in order to be eligible for practicum the following semester. You must undergo a criminal background check through the Minnesota Department of Human Services. Must be taken A-F.

Topical Outline:
1. Review and Assess 12 core function competencies
2. Identify strengths and areas of improvement in core program competencies
3. Identify internship sites
4. Secure internship placement
5. Develop internship goals
6. Complete criminal background study

3. Demonstrate readiness to begin Internship

Prerequisites:  COUN 2510, COUN 2520 and COUN 2540 or Instructor Approval
