Group Counseling (COUN 2640)

Description: This course teaches the theoretical and practical skills of group counseling for alcohol and drug-abuse treatment. You will learn about group stages, group leader skills, group rules and goals, types of group therapy and clinical record keeping. Must be taken A-F.

4. Writing and Clinical charting skills
5. Stage of group development
6. Group leadership

Learning Outcomes:
1. Identify personal characteristics of a counselor, counselor's values and ethics
2. Identify group theory and group practice
3. Demonstrate group counseling competencies and skills
4. Apply critical thought, ethics, and cross-cultural sensitivity to group counseling

Prerequisites:  COUN 2510 or Instructor Approval
Co-requisites:  COUN 2620, COUN 2630, and COUN 2650
