Description:
This course provides a broad foundation in information security. You will learn about the diverse and evolving threats to modern networks, and a variety of defensive strategies and countermeasures. Building on networking skills developed in previous courses, you will learn practical skills in securing, managing and monitoring networks and hosts. Topics covered include cryptographic fundamentals, firewall technologies, security appliances, access control, web application security, OS and application security, and computer forensics; as well as policies, disaster recovery, and managing human factors. Must be taken A-F.
Topical Outline:
1. Application, web application, and operating system security
2. Host (client, server) security; physical and logical access control
3. Network and network device security such as routers, firewalls
4. Security applications such as antivirus, vulnerability scanners, protocol analyzers, intrusion detection, data loss prevention
5. Cryptography
Learning Outcomes:
1. Security management including policies, administration, business continuity planning
2. Deploy, configure, analyze data from, typical security applications; use monitoring and auditing tools
3. Describe the applications of cryptography, understand how different forms of cryptography are used to secure data; use typical cryptography tools
4. Analyze a network and recommend methods to configure network and hosts securely
5. Recognize security vulnerabilities and signs of a security breach; know the steps to take to recover from a security breach
6. Understand the importance of management in a security program; recognize the importance of planning and policy
