Description:
This course introduces you to the most important components of Windows operating systems. You will learn to customize Windows, and to work with drives, folders, and files. You will also be introduced to advanced topics, such as working with the registry, customizing startup, using command line tools with Windows, implementing a backup strategy, optimizing disks, and using other Windows troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization tools. You will learn to work with Windows applications and use the network connectivity features of Windows. This is a lecture and hands-on tutorial-based course. If entering the Information Technology programs, you have the option of testing out of
ITEC 1250 through successful completion of an online examination. Must be taken A-F.

1. Current Windows operating systems
2. Computer file systems, including files, folders and shortcuts
3. System maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization tools
4. Operating system troubleshooting strategies
5. Windows command line tools
6. Windows client networking
Learning Outcomes:
1. Distinguish the basic functions of an operating system, organizing desktops, customize client files, working with shortcuts
2. Manage and organize files, folders and other file structures in the Windows NTFS file system on hard drives and removable media
3. Develop a strategy for troubleshooting problems, troubleshoot problems using appropriate tools, and troubleshoot software
4. Evaluate system performance, practice methods of maintaining and improving system performance
5. Examine and implement backup strategies and tools which maintain data integrity; appreciate the importance of such tools
6. Identify and use appropriate basic command-line commands to operate a PC
