Description: This course examines community and outreach services provided by libraries of all types. You will explore how academic, public, and special libraries as well as school media centers in the United States, build partnerships and serve their broader communities, with emphasis on those who are traditionally under served.

Topical Outline:
1. The role of library community and outreach services in supporting broader societal goals and values
2. The diverse outreach services that libraries provide and how those services support the library's mission
3. Community expectations and needs that libraries serve through outreach programming
4. Analysis and evaluation of the impact of library outreach programs and services
5. Methods of developing a library outreach program or service

Learning Outcomes:
1. Discuss how library community and outreach services support broader societal goals and values
2. Recognize the diversity of outreach services libraries provide and how those services support the library's mission
3. Identify the needs and expectations of communities which a library serves through its outreach programming
4. Analyze and evaluate the impact of library outreach programs or services on the community of users it serves
5. Develop a proposed library outreach program or service using course knowledge

Prerequisites:  LIBT 1300 or Instructor Approval
