Description:
This is the second semester of a two-semester course where you will learn the concepts and methods of statistics with an emphasis on data analysis. Over the two semesters, you will learn methods for collecting data, graphical and numerical descriptive statistics, correlation, simple linear regression, basic concepts of probability, confidence intervals and hypothesis tests for means and proportions, and chi-square tests. The developmental mathematics concepts that serve as a foundation for statistical analysis are integrated into the course. Upon successful completion of both
MATH 0990 and
MATH 1090, you will fulfill MnTC Goal Area 4.
Topical Outline:
1. Content from
MATH 0990
2. Linking probability to statistical inference
3. Inference for one and two proportions
4. Inference for means
5. Chi-square tests
Learning Outcomes:
1. Outcomes from
MATH 0990
2. Formulate appropriate questions for a problem
3. Develop null and alternative hypotheses
4. Analyze the data
5. Determine the probability of the statistical result
6. State the conclusion in the context of the problem
