Description:
This course is an introductory survey of the peoples and their social and cultural institutions throughout the world. After an overview of basic geographic concepts, each of the world’s major regions are studied in depth. Finally, the course examines some global issues and global citizenship. This is a telecourse that uses the Annenberg/CPB Series titled “The Power of Place: World Regional Geography.” (A telecourse fee is charged.)

Learning Outcomes:
1. Identify Earth's continental regions, physical characteristics, and place names
2. Apply vocabulary, methods and theories used by geographers and other social scientists to describe and explain human-earth interactions
3. Articulate how social-cultural influences (including their own) affects human perceptions of other groups of people
4. Articulate how general systems theories explain inter and intra-regional impacts and relationships
