Nonmetallic Structures (ACMT 1700)

Description: You will take a hands-on approach in this course, working with a variety of nonmetallic materials for aircraft painting and finishing. You will learn about a variety of aircraft applications, including plastic, fiberglass, honeycomb and composite constructions. Must be taken A-F.

Topical Outline:
1. Acceptable and non-acceptable wood defects
2. Characteristics of wood and laminated wood
3. Acceptable condition of aircraft fabrics
4. Requirements for registration markings
5. Aircraft paints and primer
6. Damage evaluation of composites

Learning Outcomes:
1. Inspect a wood component and list necessary repairs
2. Test a fabric surface to determine the condition of the fabric
3. Inspect composite material for delamination, voids, dents or cracks
4. Inspect and repair composites per manufacturing specifications
5. Complete required documentation of composite repairs

Prerequisites:  ACMT 1000, ACMT 1100, ACMT 1200, ACMT 1300 and ACMT 1400 or Admission to the Program with Course Equivalencies from another Approved FAR 147 School or Admission to the Program through FAA Approval
