Microbiology Lab (BIOL 2231)

Description: In this course, you will learn culturing, microscopy and clinical microbiology techniques. Virology, microbial genetics and immunology are also included. This course meets on campus twice per week in two-hour sessions. Completion of both BIOL 2230 and BIOL 2231 are required to count toward MnTC Goal Area 3.

Learning Outcomes:
1. 1. Culture organisms using aseptic techniques and perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures
2. 2. Use microscope, perform staining techniques and visualize and identify different types of microbes
3. 3. Evaluate the biochemical and microbiological data to identify, distinguish and characterize common bacteria
4. 4. Perform clinical procedures and use molecular techniques to identify pathogens
