Creative Producing (PROD 2103)

Description:  This course is an introduction to the basics of the producing craft. You will learn the aesthetic principles of creative producing, acquiring the rights and dealing with creative properties, as well as packaging a specific movie for production. You will be able to implement the acquired learning into the movies directed by the Cinema division's Directing students. Must be taken A-F.
Prerequisites: 

CIPR 1102, CIST 1102, SCRN 1102, and ENGL 1111.

Producing 1: Introduction to Producing (PROD 2104)

Description:  This course is an introduction to the entertainment and media industries from a producer's perspective. You will learn the principles of budgeting and scheduling a movie, crewing up, contracting above-the-line and below-the-line personnel, working with union and non-union artists, as well as producing for different movies and TV program genres, and all the industry delivery requirements. You will be able to apply the acquired learning to the movies directed by the Cinema division's Directing students. Must be taken A-F.
Prerequisites: 

CIPR 1102, CIST 1102, SCRN 1102 and ENGL 1111.

Producing 2: Marketing and Distribution (PROD 2105)

Description:  This course is an introduction to the art of movies and television programs' marketing and distribution. You will learn how to create marketing and distribution plans for your projects, four-walling, working with reps, dealing with distribution economics and navigating the international film markets. You will be able to apply the acquired learning to the movies directed by the Cinema division's Directing students. Must be taken A-F.

Financing, Accounting and Management (PROD 2106)

Description:  This course is an introduction to financing movies and other video or TV programs, as well as managing and accounting their successful production. You will learn how to create business plans, packages, types of financing and about other tax implications. You will also learn how to navigate the international financing world and about the art of co-production. Must be taken A-F.

Internship (PROD 2107)

Total Credits:  2   Internship/Practicum Credits:  2.00
Description:  This internship provides second-year producing students with an opportunity to work in a professional film or video production facility or on a qualifying shoot in the Twin Cities or anywhere in the country. Internship placement will be supervised by the producing instructor and will reflect your specific interests in a producing career. You will create a final report at the end of the internship. NOTE: Working on regular student productions through the MCTC programs cannot be considered as an internship. Must be taken A-F.
