Self-Defense for Women (PHED 1191)

Description:  This course helps you develop physical and psychological skills to avoid or stop physical assault, harassment, and dangerous situations. You will also develop new approaches to Bystander Training that helps communities re-establish their shared responsibility to create safe environments for all members of society. You will practice physical techniques of basic striking and kicking, shifting, blocking, and releasing. You will also spend time learning to analyze dangerous situations, victim behavior, the mentality of attackers, and issues of domestic violence and sexual harassment/violence. Must be taken A-F.

Yoga Anatomy and Practices with the Physical Body (PHED 2001)

Description:  This Yoga Alliance approved course is for aspiring yoga teachers. You will study the anatomy, physiology and kinesiology of the physical body as well as the doshas in relation to yoga practices such as asana (postures) and pranayama (breath control). You will learn the correct form of, and how to safely instruct others in the practices. You will observe and assist in yoga classes as well as design and teach yoga classes to others.
Prerequisites:  Admission to the Yoga Teacher Training Program and Placement score into READ 1300 or completion of READ 0200 or ESOL 0052

Description:  This Yoga Alliance approved course is for aspiring yoga teachers. You will study the anatomy, physiology and kinesiology of the physical body as well as the subtle body (koshas, chakras, prana vayus, and bandhas) in relation to yoga practices such as asana (postures), pranayama (breath control), and bandhas. You will learn the correct form of, and how to safely instruct others in the practices. You will observe and assist in yoga classes as well as design and teach yoga classes to others.

Description:  This course introduces activities in natural settings, which are a necessary component to a healthy and balanced life. You will engage in seasonal outdoor activities and learn more about yourself, as well as how to build safe and welcoming environments for others. Description:  This is a required course for students pursuing the Personal Trainer and/or Group Exercise certification. You will learn behavior modification techniques and strategies for instructing participants in various areas of wellness as well as promoting wellness, as a leader in your community. You will apply these principles to teach fitness classes, work with individuals one on one, or organize a community wellness project.
