Library/Information Agency Internship (LIBT 2900)

Description: The internship provides structured on-the-job training in a library or information agency. You will work with a designated site coordinator at an approved library or information agency to design a custom work plan, allowing you to develop your practical skills. You will also develop a working resume, complete a mock job application, and participate in an instructor-led seminar throughout the semester which will include a virtual or in person site visit. Must be taken Pass/No Credit. Please contact the course instructor to discuss internship placement options.

Topical Outline:
1. Confirmation of an approved library/information agency work site and site coordinator.
2. Internship work plan.
3. Weekly check ins about internship experience.
4.  Introduction to Career Services, professional resume review, and mock job application.
5. Site visit (in person or virtually) with instructor, student and internship site coordinator.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Work effectively to secure an internship and successfully participate as a cooperative member of a library/information agency team.
2. Reflect on contributions made to, and knowledge gained from, library/information agency throughout the internship experience (check ins, evaluations, and site visit).
3. Effectively communicate with internship site coordinator and course instructor about work plan progress and strategically problem solve issues as needed.
4. Critically examine issues experienced and observed first hand as an intern within a library/information agency workplace.
5. Create and revise a professional resume; practice applying for job; establish a connection with Career Services.

Prerequisites:  LIBT 2200 and LIBT 2300 or Instructor Approval
