Description:
This course introduces electronic resource management in libraries or information agencies. You will explore electronic resource management through the work of acquisitions, collection management, discovery, and collection management. You will practice troubleshooting and resolving access issues with electronic resources. You will design a marketing plan to promote awareness and usage of electronic resources. You will consider how electronic resources are used and integrated into research and discovery systems. You will learn professional and ethical standards for electronic resource management, emphasizing user access to information.
Topical Outline:
1. The role of electronic resource management in the operation of libraries and information agencies.
2. Acquiring electronic resources and understanding how vendor relations, licensing, negotiation, and accessibility impact end users.
3. Electronic records and collection management: activation, discovery, display, integration, suppression, cleanup, and deactivation.
4. Troubleshooting and resolving access issues with electronic resources.
5. Marketing electronic resources and integrating them into research and discovery systems.
6. Current issues and challenges in electronic resource, including: access, ownership, usability, and sustainability as it applies to library and information service settings.
