Electric Motors and Motor Controls (HVAC 1110)

Description: This course covers basic theory, operation, application, maintenance, identification, and repair of electrical motors used in commercial and residential HVAC-R applications. You will learn about hermetic compressors and related motor starting and protection controls. Must be taken A-F.

5. Start and Run Capacitors
6. Electronically Commutated Motors

Learning Outcomes:
1. Interpret electric motor types and applications
2. Properly identify motor windings on a variety of HVACR electrical motors
3. Complete motor starting control circuits with a variety of controls and electric motors.
4. Troubleshoot and replace electric motors and motor start components on various types of HVACR equipment.
5. Interpret and test start and run capacitors used with HVACR electric motors
6. Interpret, test and repair ECM electric motors

Prerequisites:  HVAC 1000, HVAC 1005, HVAC 1020, HVAC 1025, HVAC 1030, and HVAC 1035
