Description:
This course offers a definition and a survey of lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/queer (LGBTQ) literature from ancient times to the present. You will read a wide range of literary and historical texts, with an emphasis on 20th century poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and drama, and you will engage in the questions that invigorate this evolving field. This course has a strong cross-cultural emphasis.

6. Award-winning LGBTQ writers
Learning Outcomes:
1. List and identify of major LGBTQ literary works and their creators and the themes explored in those works
2. Analyze and evaluate, both orally and in writing, the works studied
3. Articulate and assess similarities and differences among LGBTQ members of diverse groups and all human experiences as represented in LGBTQ literature, drama and film
4. Persuade an audience, either orally or in writing, of the importance and impact of selected works, movements, artists or events for diverse members of the LGBTQ community
