Biology Undergraduate Research (BIOL 2900)

Description:
This course will provide students opportunities to carry out biology undergraduate research at Minneapolis College and earn academic credit. You must work with the instructor to develop and sign a research contract before registering for this course. You will learn to work safely in a laboratory or field setting, carry out protocols with accuracy and precision, and use good data documentation practices. You will develop troubleshooting and quality-control skills. You will analyze and report your results according to your research contract, for example, via a poster or written report. Must be taken A-F.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Develop and sign a contract with the instructor including topic, time commitment, and expectation for reporting results.
2. Demonstrate understanding of the research topic, including broader significance, through framing of experimental question, hypothesis, and analysis of results.
3. Complete laboratory safety training and use best practices for lab and field work safety.
4. Conduct procedures and use lab equipment correctly and with attention to detail.
5. Maintain clear and complete records of experimental methods and results.
6. Analyze and report results using professional scientific communication standards.
