Description: This hands-on course provides an overview of Ayurveda, an ancient Indian system of healing that focuses on bringing balance to the whole person through food-based therapies, yoga, and meditation. You will learn the basic principles of Ayurveda that specify constitutional types, how Ayurveda assesses the effects of behavior on health, and understand how Ayurvedic approaches can be applied for living a full and healthy life.

1. History and philosophy of Ayurveda
2. Ayurvedic understanding of health and disease management
3. Self-care and stress management techniques
4. Holistic approaches to health and wellness
5. Self-awareness and personal development
6. Preventive medicine and health promotion

Learning Outcomes:
1. Describe the history of Ayurveda and use its basic terms
2. Assess constitutional type and current state of imbalance
3. Identify lifestyle choices that are not supporting balance and apply appropriate modifications and evaluate effectiveness
4. Describe the three vital essences that sustain positive health
5. Recognize how food and diet choices affect health and the mind
6. Identify the primal qualities of Nature and demonstrate how to work with these on multiple levels

Prerequisites:  Placement into READ 1300 or completion of READ 0200 or ESOL 0052
