Fitness Nutrition (HLTH 1135)

Description: This course covers the role nutrition, complemented by physical activity and exercise, plays in determining one's health. You will gain a basic understanding of the anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics of exercise and the importance nutrition plays in the enhancement of fitness based on the choices you make in your everyday life.

1. Nutrition and Fitness Analysis
2. Basic mathematical calculations
3. Forms and roles of energy in metabolism
4. Components of fitness
5. Food and label reading
6. Nutritional concepts applied specifically to exercise

Learning Outcomes:
1. Analyze basic nutrition functions, standards, tools and the role they play in human energy
2. Incorporate core fitness components to develop a personalized plan
3. Describe health problems associated with poor nutrition and physical inactivity as well as the benefit of healthy nutrition and physical activity
4. Perform basic mathematical calculation to increase critical thinking skills both quantitatively and qualitatively by applying basic skills to exercise and nutrition-related problems
5. Identify the interrelationships among the various form of energy systems and the role of nutrients in production
6. Evaluate trends, controversies and cultural perspectives in nutrition and fitness

Prerequisites:  Placement into READ 0200 or ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042
