Description: This course is presented from a holistic view, so all aspects of life will be discussed. It is intended to give students workable tools to manage stress in their lives and critique how they manage distress in their lives. You will complete awareness exercises, problem-solve, do personal inventories and make personal plans. Topics will include: perception of stress, strength intervention, coping and managing, psychophysiology, stress and illness, risking, and stress and communication.

Topical Outline:
1. Terminology
2. Physiology and psychology of stress
3. Relaxation techniques
4. Coping techniques (managing anger, anxiety, time)
5. Prevention techniques (effective communication, exercise, nutrition, goal setting, etc)

Learning Outcomes:
1. Define the nature of stress and differentiate between eustress and distress
2. Explain the psycho-physiological stress response
3. Apply relaxation techniques
4. Apply coping techniques
