Introduction to Lathes (MTTC 1100)

Description: This course introduces basic lathe operations and turning projects. You will learn the English (standard) and Metric precision measuring instruments and practices. Emphasis will be given on how to achieve an acceptable level of quality control during inspection.

Topical Outline:
1. Identifying hazards, learning safe operation
2. Basic lathe setup and operation
3. Use of common machinist inspection instruments
4. Comprehension of measuring practices
5. Basic use of Metrology equipment

Learning Outcomes:
1. Demonstrate industry standard safety regulations and processes
2. Interpret machine nomenclature and proper tooling
3. Develop skill in the use and care of precision measuring devices
4. Analyze and distinguish the accuracy of measurement via industry standard practices.
5. Demonstrate and preform machine setups and safe operation of the lathe
6. Create and produce parts to match blueprint specifications

Prerequisites:  Placement into READ 0100 or completion of ESOL 0042
Co-requisites:  MTTC 1015, MTTC 1105, and MTTC 1110
