Description:
This course focuses on health promotion and disease prevention while expanding the knowledge and skills of the LPN as they transition to the role of professional nurse. Emphasis is on understanding the role of the professional nurse and provision of health promotion for the adult and elderly. Applying the nursing process to facilitate critical thinking, therapeutic communication, and growth and development theory in a caring and culturally congruent environment. Must be taken A-F.

1. Recognize professional and therapeutic communication techniques with patients, families, and the healthcare team.

4. Describe principles of evidence-based practice in the provision of nursing care.
5. Practice collaboration within the scope of the nursing discipline to help patients achieve health goals.
6. Construct an awareness of personal values, attitudes, behaviors, and beliefs essential to professional nursing.
Prerequisites:
Admission to the Professional Nursing Program, Licensed Practical Nurse with unencumbered Minnesota license.
