Ethical Hacking and Network Defense (ITEC 2990)

Description: This course is an introduction to vulnerability assessment and penetration testing. You will learn to use tools and techniques that security testers use to discover and exploit vulnerabilities. You will use information gained from these tests to develop solutions to protect networks and systems. You will learn about security testing concepts, documentation of security tests, ethical and legal ramifications, and other concerns related to security testing. Must be taken A-F.

1. Security vulnerabilities in computers and networks
2. Methods to detect vulnerabilities in computer systems
3. Research, tools and techniques used by hackers and penetration testers
4. Fixes and controls for security vulnerabilities

Learning Outcomes:
1. Be able to set up and configure a suitable lab environment
2. Use hacker tools and strategies to discover and exploit security vulnerabilities in computers and networks
3. Develop and implement strategies to fix or mitigate security vulnerabilities
4. Create a report on the security of a system being tested; covering vulnerabilities discovered, access obtained, data discovered; and recommendations of fixes and controls
