Working with Children During Out-of-School Time (ECED 1004)

Description: This foundational course introduces you to career opportunities working with school age children (5-12) during out-of-school time. You will examine the roles of school-age providers, basic program elements and regulations, professionalism, and current issues. You will increase your understanding of national standards and the skills necessary to successfully work with school-age children in an out-of-school time program. Must be taken A-F.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Examine history of the profession and Minnesota rules related to out of school time care
2. Examine career opportunities and worker requirements and roles
3. Compare types of out of school time programs
4. Explore professional and community organizations and resources
5. Describe reflective practice and Developmentally Appropriate Practice

Prerequisites:  A recommended placement into READ 0200 or ESOL 0052 or a recommended completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042.
