Topics in Cinema (CIST 1105)

Description: This course provides an opportunity to study in depth a variety of Cinema topics. Possible topics include studies of directors, genres, national cinemas; Different cinematic perspectives (gender, race, ethnicity, history, literature, theatre, art and music)

Topical Outline:
1. Explore current trends in Cinema History
2. Essential skills involved in the interpretation of films through analysis and critique
3. Retrospectives of particular filmmakers
4. Survey of film genres

Learning Outcomes:
1. Critically analyze film content for issues covered in the topics class
2. Summarize the major film movement covered in the topics class
3. Describe the style of the filmmakers covered in the topics class
4. Identify the contributions of film movements to cinema language

Prerequisites:  Placement into READ 1300 or completion of READ 0200 or ESOL 0052
