Description:
This course refines and expands on the concepts students practiced in Drawing 1. You will be introduced to professional practices, expand your knowledge of approaches and historic movements in drawing, and apply aesthetic principles to your work and the work of others by engaging in critique. Students are responsible for purchasing some materials. Please contact faculty for approximate cost of materials and supplies.
Topical Outline:
1. Explore a wide range of drawings by engaging with other artists and work in museums and galleries
2. Use of color and color theory as it applies to drawing
3. Use of historical and contemporary drawing approaches
4. Art Elements and Principles of design and how to use them to critique work
5. How artists develop personal expression and aesthetic in drawing
6. Professional practice to include methods of preparing work for the exhibition, such as digital documentation, matting and framing, and exploring presentation formats
Learning Outcomes:
1. Expand drawing practices with a variety of subject matter and media at an intermediate level.
2. Analyze drawings using terms including the art Elements and Principles at an intermediate level.
3. Demonstrate an effective understanding of color theory and application of color media to drawing.
4. Originate critical responses to one’s own and other’s artwork.
5. Develop a body of work that demonstrates your personal style and write an artist’s statement.
6. Demonstrate professional studio skills for presenting artwork to the public.
