Description:
This course is an advanced exploration into the technology required to assemble a two-story commercial building. The course will study detailed assembly of conditions ranging from hydraulic elevators to building flashing. The lab project assembly of a commercial building (
ARCH 2000) will be used as a model to research construction conditions.
Topical Outline:
1. Components and requirements for commercial construction
2. Developing design development drawings into construction drawings
3. Problem solving skills in the use of construction materials
4. Typical areas needing extra attention: waterproofing, flashing and connection to other materials
5. Using manufacturers’ guides to select items such as: windows, structural framing and roofing
Learning Outcomes:
1. Define typical requirements and elements of light commercial building systems, focusing on the building shell and fire-rated construction
2. Develop typical architectural details for parapet walls, wall systems, material connections, etc.
3. Troubleshoot construction sections and details with regard to waterproofing and air barrier systems
4. Apply details developed to a project they are working on in
ARCH 2000
