Addiction Counseling Group Practicum 2 (COUN 2830)

Description: This course is the second required practicum in which you transfer knowledge and skills learned in coursework to the clinical setting. You will demonstrate competence in the Transdisciplinary Foundations of Practice Dimensions (12 core functions) of a counselor. The experience may take place in a variety of agencies. You will collaborate with faculty on internship planning with the intent of meeting your individualized career goals. The two practica must total 880 hours and one must be at least 440 hours. You will also attend biweekly two-hour group classroom sessions as part of practicum supervision. Must be taken Pass/Fail.

Topical Outline:
1. Practicum supervision in approved site to satisfy licensure requirement
2. 12 Core functions
3. Prepare for testing and employment in the alcohol and drug counseling field

Learning Outcomes:
1. Apply and Demonstrate the knowledge and skills of as many of the 12 core functions of an addiction counselor available at site
2. Apply and demonstrate ethical standards
3. Explain how to take licensure test and apply for Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy licensure
