Description:
This course provides a foundational understanding of the field of computer forensics and imparts basic forensic analysis skills. You will gain forensics knowledge and skills on a foundation of operating systems administration and information security. You will cover a comprehensive range of topics, including survey of forensics tools, crime-scene processing, evidence control and data gathering. In addition to computer forensics analysis concepts, you will gain insight into investigative techniques and expert witnessing as they apply to this specialized field. Must be taken A-F.

1. Computer forensics and laboratory setup
2. Forensic data acquisitions and crime scene processing
3. Network forensics procedures, analysis, and tools
4. File system forensic procedures, analysis, and tools
5. Mobile device forensics procedures, analysis, and tools
6. Report writing and expert witness testimony; ethical considerations
Learning Outcomes:
1. Describe the computer investigation; understand requirements of accurate data acquisition
2. Investigate and practice different methods of data acquisition in various circumstances
3. Gain skill using various forensic analysis tools
4. Perform forensic analysis on various data sources, such as network; file system; email
5. Create a detailed forensic analysis report
6. Describe the expert witness process; discuss and consider ethical issues related to expert witness testimony
