Description:
This is the first of a two-part production foundation curriculum. This hands-on introductory course focuses on the basic technical and aesthetic elements involved in cinematic storytelling. You will work in small groups to produce, shoot and edit a variety of short films. Must be taken A - F.
Topical Outline:
1. Digital technologies, media and format
2. Basic camera operation, exposure and lighting
3. Technical properties of lenses and using them creatively
4. Introduction to the grammar of cinema
5. Non-Linear software editing basics
6. Foundational editing theory
Learning Outcomes:
1. Apply a basic understanding and ability to use digital cinema production and post-production equipment
2. Apply basic aesthetic techniques of visual storytelling utilized in individual and group projects
3. Demonstrate teamwork skills developed through work in small production crews
4. Demonstrate the ability to balance creative, technical and organizational aspects of filmmaking
