Weight Training (PHED 1123)

Description: This course is designed as an introduction to resistive exercise through the use of weight machines and free weights, with emphasis on total fitness through circuit training. Each student will identify personal needs and pursue a program appropriate to those needs. Must be taken Pass/Fail.

Topical Outline:
1. Fundamental principles for safe participation in activity
2. Wellness concept as an holistic approach to fitness; diet, body systems and how to train for better cardiovascular/strength fitness
3. Equipment and technique
4. Training programs and SMART Goals

Learning Outcomes:
1. Develop meaningful goals for fitness
2. Identify the components of fitness and how it relates to overall health and well-being
3. Evaluate programs and how they relate to personal fitness goals
4. Demonstrate correct form and proper procedures when participating
