Total Credits: 3
Lecture Credits: 1
Lab Credits: 2

Description: This course covers the gas metal arc welding process known commonly as wirefeed or MIG welding. You will learn GMAW theory, power supplies and machine controls. Proper welding technique will also be covered as you utilize welding equipment to complete various projects.

Topical Outline:
1. Safe use of arc welding equipment and compressed gasses
2. Electrode and shielding gas selection
3. Theory, applications, power sources and equipment
4. Welding with various GMAW transfer modes
5. Welding with various types of electrodes in all positions on various joint designs

Learning Outcomes:
1. Understand the hazards associated with arc welding and use of compressed gasses
2. Comprehend GMAW theory including modes of transfer and electrode/shielding gas selection
3. Properly utilize power sources, machine controls and equipment
4. Demonstrate proper welding technique with short circuit transfer on steel and stainless steel in all positions on various joint designs
5. Demonstrate proper welding technique with spray transfer on steel in the flat and horizontal position on various joint designs
6. Demonstrate proper welding technique with pulse spray transfer on steel and aluminum in all positions on various joint designs

Prerequisites:  Placement into READ 0200 or ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042
Co-requisites:  WELD 1350
