Visual Design for Photography and Video (PHMO 2350)

Description: This course deals with the relationship of visual objects to movement and time within a camera frame for both still image and video capture. You will utilize photographic compositional techniques and design elements as you explore a variety of subject genres including portrait, landscape, architecture and still life. You will prepare a portfolio of photography and video that will enable you to develop your personal vision. You will develop an understanding of visual aesthetics and demonstrate that knowledge during group and peer critiques.

1. Elements of photographic composition and design
2. Elements of moving image / video
3. Developing a personal aesthetic
4. Subject matter choices
5. Analysis of still and motion imagery

Learning Outcomes:
1. Create photographs using design and compositional elements
2. Create videos using elements of time-based imagery
3. Critique design and compositional elements within still and motion imagery
4. Produce a cohesive group of still and moving images

Prerequisites:  PHMO 1010 and PHMO 1030
