Herbal Pharmacy 2 (HERB 1245)

Description: This is a hands-on course providing training in the growing of medicinal plants, harvesting and drying to develop products in class. You will develop products adhering to Industry Good Manufacturing practices and learn labeling requirements. Other types of products such as hydrosols and essential oils will give students experience making complicated herbal products to build off skills developed in Herbal Pharmacy 1. This course will have field identification activities in foraging and plant identification while being exposed to the laws and regulations of foraged products for restaurants.

1. Grow and harvest medicinal plants
2. Follow good manufacturing guidelines to develop products from medicinal plants
3. Create product labels adhering to FDA regulations for medicinal plants
4. Develop post harvest handling techniques that maximize the quality of the medicinal plants
5. Gain experience distilling essential oils and hydrosols
6. Forage medicinal and food plants adhering to local laws and guidelines
