Description:
Using lecture, demonstration and studio work, this course introduces color theory, its application, and reproduction. You will learn about the psychophysical, cultural, and perceptional parameters of color, and you will explore the theory and history of a variety of color systems. You will develop the ability to use and manage color effectively in creative applications by studying correct scientific and artistic theories related to color, organization, perception, reproduction and interaction.
Topical Outline:
1. Basic color theory and its history in order to identify clearly the physical and chemical, psychophysical, cultural, and perceptional parameters of color
2. Color as related to design, studio arts, photography, and its related techniques, practice, and production requirements for digital, web and print reproduction
3. Visual effects with color
4. Elements of color in design, and how to control light, time and space through the correct use of color
5. Color terminology use and use it to effectively communicate visually
Learning Outcomes:
1. Develop a clear understanding of basic color theory and history and to identify clearly the physical and chemical factors of color
2. Develop a clear comprehension of color production requirements for digital, web and print reproduction, with a clear understanding of color as its use is related to design techniques and practice
3. Analyze and understand the psychophysical, cultural, historical and perceptional parameters of color
4. Develop an understanding of color terminology use and to effectively communicate with it both visually and orally
