Introduction to Educational Psychology (PSYC 2350)

Description: In this course, you will be introduced to the core principles of learning (behavioral, social cognitive, etc.). You will use these principles to understand the learning and behavior of students, and apply these principles to classroom practice. You will explore the cognitive, linguistic, personal, social, and moral development of individuals as well as individual and group differences as it relates to learning and educational outcomes. Must be taken A-F.

2. Personal, Social, and Moral Development
3. Learning and Knowledge Construction
4. Theories of Behavioral, Cognitive, and Motivational Perspectives
5. Cross-Cultural Psychology and Education
6. Pedagogy of Instructional Strategies, Classroom Management, and Assessing Students

Learning Outcomes:
1. Describe the key principles and theories that guide teachers in their efforts to adapt instruction to students' cognitive abilities and promote further cognitive development
2. Define learning and identify the general theoretical perspectives that can be used to describe and explain it
3. Explain how students differ from one another in their cognitive and linguistic development, and how teachers can accommodate such differences

Prerequisites:  PSYC 1110 or ECED 1215
