Nursing Assistant (NAHA 1819)

Description: This course focuses on the knowledge and skills needed to care for clients in long term care, acute care, and/or home care settings under the supervision of a nurse. You will learn how to provide care safely as part of the healthcare team. Upon completion of the course, you will be eligible to take the examination for placement on the Minnesota Department of Health Nursing Assistant Registry.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Demonstrate the role of the nursing assistant within the healthcare team.
2. Demonstrate utilization of therapeutic communication in the provision of care.
3. Provide assistance with activities of daily living for clients.
4. Utilize a culturally congruent person-centered plan of care while providing care to all clients.
5. Maintain a safe environment while providing care as part of the healthcare team.
6. Observe and report both usual and unusual client observations.

Prerequisites:  Placement into READ 0200 or ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042
