Description: This course is specifically designed to provide the unique skills and insights necessary for leadership success in the 21st century. You will focus on the application of managerial skills and the unique problems that impact managerial effectiveness in a diverse business environment. You will also study gender/race/age and other diversity issues, role conflict, dual-career issues, acceptance, stereotyping, mentoring and networking.

Topical Outline:
1. Leadership theories and styles
2. Gender/Age/Race studies as pertinent to leadership
3. Creation of personal leadership style
4. Implications of diversity in the workplace
5. Managing change and difficult situations

Learning Outcomes:
1. Explain the current role/position of leadership and business
2. Recognize the opportunities and challenges facing diverse people in business
3. Demonstrate an understanding of communication and diversity-based organizational issues
4. Employ constructive solutions to conflict and other disputes in the workplace
5. Illustrate methods for creating climates of inclusiveness in organizations and culture

Prerequisites:  Placement into READ 0200 or ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042
