Accounting Transfer Pathway

Description:

The Accounting Transfer Pathway AS offers students a powerful option: the opportunity to complete an Associate of Science degree with course credits that directly transfer to designated Accounting bachelor’s degree programs at Minnesota State universities*. The curriculum has been specifically designed so that students completing this pathway degree and transferring to one of the seven Minnesota State universities enter the university with junior-year status. All courses in the Transfer Pathway associate degree will directly transfer and apply to the designated bachelor’s degree programs in a related field.

The Accounting Transfer Pathway coursework will include the full-cycle of accounting, financial and managerial accounting, spreadsheets for accounting using Excel, and a capstone project. It also includes several Business Management courses. The courses in this program are delivered in the classroom and/or online. The student must complete 30 credits of general education and 30 credits of program courses to complete the A.S. Accounting Transfer Pathway degree.

General Education Courses (30 Credits):

To complete the Accounting A.S. Transfer Pathway degree, students are required to successfully complete 30 credits of General Education coursework. This coursework must be selected from at least six of the MnTC Goal Areas. Students must complete MnTC Goal Area 1 by taking ENGL 1110 or ENGA 1110, ENGL 1111 and one Communication Studies course, one course from MnTC Goal Area 3 that has a traditional lab, and three credits from Goal Areas 7, 8, 9 or 10, this requirement will be satisfied by taking the required Ethics course. MnTC Goal Area 8 is satisfied by taking ECON 2000 and ECON 2200.

*The Accounting Transfer Pathway requires students to complete a Mathematics course that meets MnTC Goal Area 4 and that has a prerequisite of MATH 1110 or MATH 1116. The following Mathematics courses will satisfy this requirement: MATH 1110, MATH 1116, MATH 1119, MATH 1120, MATH 1125, MATH 1150, MATH 1170, MATH 1180, MATH 1190 or MATH 2011. PHIL 2110 or MATH 1090 may not be used to satisfy this requirement.

All students pursuing this degree should work closely with their advisor and consult with the intended transfer institution to ensure proper selection of required program courses, if applicable program electives, required Minnesota Transfer Curriculum courses, and MnTC electives. You are expected to meet with your advisor on a regular basis to ensure courses are taken in an order that will lead to efficient and successful completion of the required coursework. Your advisor will assist you in choosing courses that will help you progress toward successful completion of your declared major.
