Description: This course provides you with the opportunity to study one of the nation's leading theaters dedicated to racial and cultural inclusion in the selection and production of their plays, the Mixed Blood Theater Company. You will learn about the history, operations, philosophy, mission and artistic goals, and the current season of plays at Mixed Blood. You will read in class the script of a current play in production at Mixed Blood, then go see that play in performance there and learn how to write a play review about what you saw.

Topical Outline:
1. History of the Mixed Blood Theatre Company, 1976-present
2. Mixed Blood Theatre's mission statement and artistic goals, past and present, its structural organization, and the programs it offers beyond public performances
3. Mixed Blood Theatre's current season of plays
4. The background and script (if available) of the play that the class will see at the Mixed Blood Theatre
5. Write a play review within a specified format

Learning Outcomes:
1. Articulate the history of Mixed Blood Theatre from 1976-present
2. Identify and discuss the mission and artistic goals of Mixed Blood Theatre, its structural organization, and it role as an innovator in racial and cultural inclusion, nationally and internationally
3. Identify and discuss Mixed Blood Theatre's current season of plays
4. Purchase a ticket to a current play at Mixed Blood Theatre and attend and report on the performance
5. Articulate a written personal response in play review format to that performance

Prerequisites:  Placement into READ 0200 or ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042
