Description:
This course is designed as a general multidisciplinary introduction to the study of aging in society. You will learn about biological, cultural, historical, political, and social factors that shape how humans age. You will examine how people age differently in different cultures and how humans have also aged differently in different time periods. You will explore the ways differences in the human life span are accounted for, societal attitudes toward aging and how these influence our response and perception of the needs of older persons on an individual, social, and institutional level.

1. Understand key sociological concepts in the sociology of aging
2. Articulate an understanding of the social determinates of aging using the sociological perspective
